(Senior) Research and Evaluation Officer – Early Years Systems Evidence

The OpportunityOur Early Years Systems Evidence team in Adelaide has an opportunity available for a Senior Research and Evaluation Officer or a Research and Evaluation Officer (dependant on experience) to join and support the team’s efforts in developing a better understanding of how children’s life chances are shaped by their experiences and environments from pregnancy through to their school years, and how this differs across the contexts in which children are raised.Reporting to the Team Head and closely working with senior research staff, your key responsibility within the Early Years Systems Evidence team is to manage, conduct and deliver predominantly contracted projects with external stakeholders, with a key focus on evaluation of programs and services focussed on the health and wellbeing of children and families.You will have the opportunity to support a wide range of activities, with a strong focus on stakeholder engagement across government and non-government services, including:

  • Co-design evaluation projects in collaboration with stakeholders from contracting organisations with guidance from senior research staff.
  • Develop project/research materials (e.g. questionnaires, focus group/interview questions).
  • Undertake data collection and analysis with support from statisticians when required.
  • Review relevant literature to support project design as well as to develop literature reviews for evaluation reports.
  • Coordinate, with the input of senior research staff and stakeholders, the planning, design and conduct of research activities.
  • Contribute to the production of project proposals and budgets in negotiation with contracting organisations with support from senior research staff.
  • Undertake project risk management, identify risks, and escalate to senior research staff as necessary.

Based in our Adelaide office, this position will be offered on full-time basis for 12 months initially with the possibility for an extension.Part time (minimum 3 days a week) may be considered for the right candidate.About YouThis position would suit someone who has experience working collaboratively to deliver high quality research or evaluation services.Additionally, the key to your success will be your demonstrated skills, knowledge & experience in the following:

  • Honours degree or equivalent in Psychology, Social Work or Public Health or a related discipline, and 3 years of relevant experience in a research or evaluation setting.
  • The Senior appointment will require a PhD or Masters degree in related discipline (Psychology, Social Work or Public Health) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a research or evaluation role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Well-developed project management, organisational and time management skills, with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong written language skills and experience in writing (e.g., government reports, academic journal articles) and disseminating research/evaluation findings to a wide variety of audiences.
