Access theSupervise diagnostic testing, development of scientific practices and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within a medium sized multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, procedures and protocols within the Mount Isa LaboratoryIndependently, manage and direct the performance and operation of pathology services across Mount Isa Hospital campus with accountability for the budget, assets and human resources of the laboratory in line with the strategic direction of Pathology Queensland. In conjunction with the Townsville Group Laboratory Manager prepare submissions for staff and equipment to ensure that the Mount Isa Laboratory service is appropriately resourced.Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced level scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Hospital and Health Service.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients on a broad range of issues pertaining to service delivery and improvement opportunities for Pathology Queensland.
- Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services of a complex nature to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards and established principles / procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Demonstrated well developed level of knowledge, expertise and skill in the management of human, financial and physical resources of a medium multidiscipline laboratory in line with the strategic direction of Pathology Queensland.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
