Love hands on work?Want the opportunity to earn while you complete a nationally recognised apprenticeship?Check out this fantastic opportunity to get into the growing rail industry, where you will learn how to maintain diesel railcars and other rail fleet!About the Apprenticeship Diesel Train Mechanic role!With a commitment to growing and developing our workforce, our Rollingstock Technician Development Program (RTDP) is an opportunity to complete a recognised fixed plant mechanical apprenticeship whilst working on and learning how to inspect, maintain and fault find diesel passenger railcars and other rail fleet (we call this ‘rollingstock’), including:
- Transmissions
- Engines
- Braking, pneumatic, hydraulic and other systems
- Heavy component changeouts and overhauls.
You will also undertake a range of on-the-job and off-the-job training. Upon successful completion of the Program, apprentices will receive a nationally accredited Engineering, fixed plant mechanical trade qualification (Certificate III) and may be eligible for fixed term or permanent Trainee Mechanical Rollingstock Technician opportunities with the Public Transport Authority of WA.We currently have two full-time Apprentice Rollingstock Technician (Mechanical) Perth-based opportunities available on this Program, which is scheduled to commence in late November 2024.This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made within the next six (6) months. Offers may be made on a fixed term basis for a period of four years with possible extension and/or permanency.About you!What do I need to become an Apprentice Diesel Train Mechanic?This is a great opportunity for people interested in starting a career in the rail industry. As an Apprentice Diesel Train Mechanic, you will be:
- Mechanically minded and able to use a range of tools, machinery and equipment
- Committed to safety
- Keen to learn
- Accurate, with good attention to detail
- A good communicator and team player
- Willing to work shift work (including day, afternoon and night shifts) and unsociable/irregular hours (including weekends from time to time)
- A minimum of 18 years of age at the commencement date of the program (25 November 2024)
You will also have:
- A current unrestricted Western Australian ‘C’ Class Driver’s licence – must have a manual licence
- Successfully completed a minimum of Year 10 or equivalent
