About the Position
Bond University’s Office of Engagement is recruiting a News Manager to drive coverage that enhances the reputation of Australia’s first private, not-for-profit university. This new role directs and participates in the creation of content across multiple platforms, working closely with a photographer, videographer, broadcast manager and public relations manager.
Based in the award-winning Bond Newsroom, the News Manager responds to the tight deadlines of breaking news but also unearths and writes compelling longform features. They make complex scientific research accessible to mainstream audiences and understand the nuances of segmenting content for print, web, video, audio and social media.
This position reports to the Director Media and Public Relations and deputises for that role when required.
About the person
The successful candidate will be joining a talented team of fellow content creators and will have:
- Experience as a journalist with a track record of writing for leading Australian media and has a portfolio demonstrating this.
- A network of media contacts that can be called upon to bring attention to Bond University students, academics, alumni, supporters, events and achievements.
- A track record of writing in a variety of styles including news, features, business and op-eds, and are undaunted when confronted by highly technical research and some of the brightest minds in Australia.
- An understanding of social media and how it drives audience engagement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong prioritisation skills in dealing with competing demands, redirecting your efforts as the news cycle dictates.
- Confidence in providing measured communications advice to university academics and leaders.
- Commitment to knowing that news and university events often happen outside regular working hours — and that you need to be there.
Salary details
The salary for the position commences at $104,310.10 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
Please note: The fixed term of this employment contract will be for up to two years, with twelve months’ probation. The prospect of conversion to a continuing employment contract will be discussed at the end of the contract term.
