Seeking a Clinical Nurse with current and extensive experience working within a general surgery/colorectal operating theatre to join a friendly and supportive team in the Operating Theatres at Townsville University Hospital. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for training of new staff in general surgery/colorectal/hepatobiliary surgery and ordering of clinical supplies and equipment. The Clinical Nurse is also responsible for formulating a draft roster for the theatre team and staff allocations in the theatre in consultation with the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure that theatre templates are covered.The two General Surgery/colorectal operating theatres run five days a week with additional theatre list occurring on an adhoc basis. This is a job share opportunity with another Clinical Nurse of this specialty.The successful candidate must have current and extensive experience working within a general surgery/colorectal operating theatre.Employment Term

- Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
- Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
- On call: Appointees may be required to participate in an on-call roster.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
- Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
- Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
- Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.
- Demonstrated ability and skills to perform the roles of a Instrument Nurse/Circulatory Nurse in accordance with Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN) standards.
- Current and extensive experience working in a General Surgery/Colorectal Operating Theatre is essential.
