Job location

Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria’s 14 prisons with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region. This position based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne’s west, provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services provided in maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison.

About the Role:

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) provides sound leadership in nursing staff development, education and practice development. The CNE is a member of the Nursing Practice Development Unit and reports to theSeinor Mental Health Nurse. The CNE will:

  • Develop and coordinate education and training programs for nurses
  • Provide career advice for nursing staff and acting as a resource regarding education and training opportunities
  • Contribute to induction and orientation of nurses
  • Initiate, leadership and/or contribution to practice development projects

Duties:

  • Membership and participation on nursing educational and advisory committees
  • Identification of suitable education programs for nurses in consultation with the Director of Nursing Practice, the Clinical Nurse Consultant, Unit Managers
  • Development and coordination of education and training programs for nurses
  • Provision of career advice for nursing staff and acting as a resource regarding education and training opportunities
  • Contribution to induction and orientation of nurses
  • Coordination of training for preceptors
  • Initiation, leadership and/or contribution to practice development projects

About You:

  • A current practising certificate in Nursing, issued by AHPRA Nurses Board of Victoria, with a post graduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Knowledge of legislation and systems pertinent to forensic mental health.
  • Experience in nursing education or clinical teaching.
  • Additional qualifications in forensic psychiatric nursing or education would be an advantage.
  • Possesses a relevant tertiary qualification (or working towards the same) to support role in advanced practice, education and research.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in current psychiatric nursing practice within a range of relevant settings including forensic psychiatry.
  • Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate training and educational programs in a health care setting.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to identify service objectives and initiate research and practice development projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and provide leadership for clinical nurses.
