Working exclusively with Fuse Recruitment, our client manages Australia’s major oil spill response equipment stockpile and offers comprehensive training in oil spill response management across Australia.
Reporting to the Manager of Operations you will be working from an office/warehouse in Fremantle with lots of space to work on machinery. On occasions you will be required to travel to other states to maintain equipment and assist in mock drills and exercises.

This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining equipment and coordinating and implementing the organisation’s management policy. This position requires expertise in mechanical equipment maintenance, strong coordination management skills, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance:
- Assist in maintaining surface equipment, dispersant testing equipment, and member equipment stockpiles across various locations across Australia.
- Conduct maintenance, inspection, testing, and replacement of hydraulic hoses and associated systems.
- Manage external and internal hydraulic hoses, coordinating with specialist third parties as needed.
- Log and record all maintenance activities using equipment maintenance database.
Spill Response:
- Serve as a Duty Officer on a scheduled roster to support initial response activities. Rotating roster every 6 weeks.
- Be available for deployment for spill responses led by member companies, government agencies, or industry partners.
- Provide technical advice and practical support during response operations, potentially leading operational teams.
- Act as a Duty (on call) Officer as a part of scheduled roster, in support of the organisation’s initial response activities.
Training and Operational Projects:
- Assist and lead member operational projects, including Ship-to-Ship product transfer operations and stand-by response capability.
- Support training programs by assisting in drills, operations, direct instruction, and role-playing exercises.
- Participate in operational drills and exercises conducted by member companies, port authorities, and/or government response agencies.
Safety, Health & Welfare and Environment:
- Ensure all activities adhere to industry best practices in safety, occupational health, welfare, and environmental protection.
- Comply with the organisation policies & procedures.
Qualifications and Required Experience:
- Relevant experience in a Mechanical or Fitter role including but not limited to Plant Mechanic/Fitter, Hydraulic Technician, Vehicle Mechanic/Technician, or Maintenance and Reliability Technician are advantageous.
- Experience or exposure to emergency services, defence forces, or similar operational environments is also beneficial.
Expectations:

- Willingness to travel interstate (up to 20% of time), participate in ‘out of hours’ spill response, and be on call 24/7 as part of a duty roster system.
- Availability for short notice travel and deployment during spill response activities, typically not exceeding 3 weeks.
