The types of positions on offer are as follows:

  • Child Protection Psychology – Metropolitan and Regional

Some Child Protection Psychology Services team members work in Districts throughout Western Australia. In this capacity, they work in District Offices as part of a multidisciplinary team as consultants and clinicians. They play an essential and highly valued role responding to the developmental and mental health effects of early life trauma on infants, children, and adolescents.

  • Residential Care Psychology– Metropolitan and Regional

Some Child Protection Psychology Services team members work across two or more of the Department’s 14 metropolitan and 12 regional Group Homes as consultants and clinicians. In this capacity they work within the Group Homes supporting care workers to reflect and attune to the minds and mental states of the young people. Additionally, they contribute to the provision of a therapeutic milieu, and a culturally sensitive, homelike environment, for youth residing in the Group Homes who have experienced significant maltreatment, neglect, and disrupted attachment.

Locations

Perth Metropolitan:

  • Various Metropolitan Locations.

Regional:

  • East Kimberley: Kununurra,
  • West Kimberley: Broome,
  • Murchison: Geraldton,
  • Southwest: Bunbury,
  • Wheatbelt: Northam.

Regional psychologist positions may be based in the above regions, but there may also be the option of being based in metropolitan locations (currently in Whiteman and Fremantle) travelling to these regional locations. Those appointed to Residential Care will need to travel to their respective region for a minimum of three nights approximately every second week.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 6 months across the Department of Communities.

Specified Calling Level 1 appointments will be supported with their supervised practice to General Registration as a Psychologist. Level 1 appointments will be for a fixed term basis only. Permanency to these roles will only be considered upon achieving General Registration as a Psychologist.

Specified Calling Level 2 appointments will be supported with their supervised practice to endorsement as Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychologists and may be appointed permanently.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Psychologist (Provisional) Specified Calling Level 1: Eligible for ‘Provisional Registration’ on the register of Psychologists with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) AND eligible to commence an approved internship toward General Registration as a Psychologist.

Psychologist Specified Calling Level 2: Eligible for ‘General Registration’ as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) OR currently enrolled in a Clinical Masters higher degree pathway and eligible to work in addition to placements.

Psychologist Specified Calling Level 3: A 2-year post graduate Masters degree in Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychology or approved equivalent, General Registration as a Psychologist AND specialist endorsement with AHPRA.
