About the role
The role of the Senior Data Scientist is to design, document, implement and operate analytics solutions for the exploitation of data in a variety of formats from multiple sources, with an emphasis on data mining, text mining and statistical techniques. The role works collaboratively with software engineers and intelligence analysts to facilitate the production of high-quality intelligence products and outcomes for internal and external clients.In-depth knowledge and expertise of data management, data mining, text mining, statistics and software development is critical. Hands-on experience in delivering practical analytics solutions to solve real-world problems is essential. Experience with identity resolution technology, social network analysis, spatial-temporal analysis and visualisation technologies are highly desirable.Key responsibilities:
- Perform bespoke and BAU analytics on a wide array of datasets.
- Design and implement new technologies, tools, and methods in a secure environment.
- Work closely with Intelligence Analysts to assist them in delivering intelligence products.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:
- Highly developed analytical skills, including the ability to understand a problem in context, research potential solutions, and implement the solution.
- Extensive experience in the management of high-volumes of both structured and unstructured data.
- Demonstrated experience in object-oriented programming languages (preferably Java), relational databases and dynamic and interactive web development.
- Demonstrated experience with identity resolution technology, social network analysis and data visualisation.
- Demonstrated experience in communicating with and working collaboratively with clients and colleagues to produce the best outcomes for their needs.
Essential qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Data Mining, Statistics or a related field.
- Ability to successfully complete the Criminal Intelligence Development Program Level 1 and 2.
