We are currently looking for Health Service Medical Practitioners in Psychiatry to provide and promote high quality, patient-centred care to the clients of Fiona Stanley Hospital Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will work in Youth Hospital in the Home which has recently been expanded from 12 beds to 16 beds.

You will work under the supervision of Consultant Psychiatrist. You will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, in accordance with the hospital’s core values of Commitment, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (CARE) to achieve National Standards for Mental Health Service, South Metropolitan Service (SMHS) performance standards and the National Safety and Quality Healthcare Standards.

This position is across 7 days a week including after hours and weekends.

This is a fixed term part time appointment at 64 hours per fortnight or at 0.8 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) for 5 years with the possibility of extensions.

Area Profile: Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) in Murdoch, Western Australia, is a 783-bed public hospital. It is part of the and the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG). FSH delivers comprehensive clinical services and includes the 140-bed State rehabilitation service, a 30-bed purpose-built mental health unit and the State burns service. We are the major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan area providing care to meet the growing needs of our community. As home to many leading clinicians, we also strive to be a leader in research and education.

FSFHG provides specialist mental health services (MHS) across a variety of settings including the Emergency Department, inpatient, community and liaison services. The MHS collaborates with and develops partnerships within our own organisation and externally with other service providers to facilitate coordinated and integrated services for consumers and carers in line with the South Metropolitan Health Service Care Coordination in Mental Health policy. The MHS upholds a person centred approach to assessment, treatment, management and discharge planning. Decision making is a collaborative process which includes the consumer, family members, carers and support services.

The Fiona Stanley Hospital Mental Health Service provides:

  • Youth Hospital in the Home (16 beds for young people aged between 16-24 years)
  • Community Clinic for Eating Disorders for young people aged between 16-24 years
  • Emergency Psychiatry – assessment and treatment for patients with mental health issues who present to the emergency department
  • Addiction Psychiatry / Addiction Medicine
  • a 14-bed Youth Unit for young people aged between 16 and 24 years
  • an 8-bed Mother and Baby Unit
  • an 8-bed Assessment Unit providing a therapeutic environment for patients requiring short term admission for stabilisation and monitoring for up to 72 hours or an extended period of care
  • a consultation liaison service to support patients throughout the general hospital or rehabilitation service who have mental health issues in addition to their presenting complaint
  • a Youth Community Assessment and Treatment Team (YCATT) that provides a time limited, client-centred recovery-focused approach to youth aged 16-24 years
  • Perinatal Mental Health
  • Gaming Disorder Clinic
